automotive photos
...exotica

No collection of automotive photos would be complete without shots of the odd and the exotic. Up first are the exotics, a pair of the most significant automobiles of the 1960s. The first photo shows the engine of the iconic Ford Gt40, a landmark LeMans winner from the 1960s. It's followed by a shot of the most beautiful car ever made, the Jaguar E-type. I have focused on the Ford's engine as it is just as breathtaking as the car that carries it.

This photo of a replica Ford GT40 was taken at the British Motor Show in Atlanta, GA.

FERRARI KILLER

The Ford GT40 defeated Ferrari at LeMans in the 1960s.

Although it is difficult to look away from the F-type's body, I thought you might be interested in the beauty of the engine as well. So I decided to split the difference between the two.

Regarded by Enzo Ferrari as the most beautiful car ever made, the Jaguar E-type shows its beauty was more than skin deep, displaying its gorgeous straight six and triple carburetors.

RELATED STORIES

Exotic autos are not limited to the fast, sleek and furious as the next two photos show. The breed includes the daring and the iconic, typified by a chevy convertible truck and a land rover pickup of sixties vintage.

The former had never been envisaged by General Motors and its execution began in the mind of its adventurous owner. The latter boasted an aluminum body while every other car of the period was made of steel, the Corvette notwithstanding.

It takes a special level of dedication to the notion of rugged individuality to create a convertible truck such as this delectable piece. But that guarantees you won't see yourself coming and going.

THE CONVERTIBLE TRUCK

The transportation of choice for rebel armies worldwide, the land rover finally ceded territory to the toyota hilux pickup or its 4runner cousin. But neither had the aluminium body or the character of this piece of exotica.

ALUMINUM BODYWORK WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME

You couldn't ask for more divergence in the interpretation of exotica than that which I have presented here. But the exotic need not be beautiful. Rather, it should be rare and include the path least taken, much like a black orchid.
